Safety Policy

Sentinel Protocol

Last updated: March 2026

glup connects people in real life. That comes with real responsibility. The Sentinel Protocol is our comprehensive safety framework designed to protect every user before, during, and after sessions. Your safety is not a feature — it is the foundation of everything we build.

1. User Verification

Every glup account is authenticated through Firebase Authentication, which supports:

  • Email verification — users must verify their email address before gaining full access to the Platform;
  • Social sign-in — Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In provide identity verification through established providers;
  • One account per person — we prohibit multiple accounts and actively detect coordinated inauthentic behavior;
  • Brute-force protection — automated account lockout and IP blocking mechanisms prevent unauthorized access attempts.

While authentication confirms that each account is linked to a real email address or social identity, glup does not perform background checks or identity document verification. Users should exercise their own judgment when interacting with others.

2. Location Sharing Controls

Location data powers session discovery and map features. We give you full control over how your location is used:

  • Explicit consent required — location permissions are requested only when needed and can be revoked at any time through your device settings;
  • Session locations only — we display the general area of sessions on the map, not the real-time location of individual users;
  • No background tracking — glup only accesses your location when the app is actively in use for discovery or map features;
  • Presence controls — your online presence status automatically expires after 5 minutes of inactivity;
  • Adjustable radius — you control the discovery radius for sessions and Local Picks, limiting how broadly your location is used for matching.

3. Block and Report

You have immediate tools to protect yourself from unwanted interactions:

3.1 Blocking

  • Block any user instantly from their profile, a session, or a chat conversation;
  • Blocked users cannot view your profile, send you messages, see your sessions, or interact with you in any way;
  • Blocked users are filtered from all discovery results, feeds, and session participant lists;
  • Blocks are private — the blocked user is not notified;
  • You can unblock a user at any time from your settings.

3.2 Reporting

  • Report any session, user, chat message, or Local Pick using the in-app report button;
  • Report categories include: spam, inappropriate content, misleading information, safety concern, and other;
  • All reports are reviewed by our trust and safety team within 24 hours for standard reports and within 2 hours for urgent safety concerns;
  • Reporter identity is kept confidential;
  • You may also email report@gluesq.com for situations that require detailed explanation or evidence.

4. Session Safety Design

glup sessions are designed with safety in mind from the ground up:

  • Public locations encouraged — session creation prompts hosts to choose public, well-known venues;
  • Location disclosure after RSVP — the specific session address is shared only with users who have confirmed their attendance (RSVP status: "going"). Browsing users see the general area on the map but not the precise address;
  • Participant visibility — hosts and participants can see who is attending, enabling informed decisions about participation;
  • Session capacity limits — hosts set maximum participant counts to maintain manageable group sizes;
  • Waitlist system — when sessions are full, users can join a waitlist rather than being pressured to find alternative arrangements;
  • Safety acknowledgment gate — first-time RSVP users must review and acknowledge the safety guide before joining any session.

5. Before a Session

Take these precautions before attending any glup session:

  • Review the host's profile — check their session history, ratings from previous attendees, and how long they have been on the platform;
  • Read the session description carefully — make sure you understand what the session involves, where it takes place, and what to expect;
  • Tell someone your plans — share the session details, location, and expected duration with a trusted friend or family member;
  • Check the participant list — review who else is attending. If you see someone you have previously blocked or reported, reconsider attendance;
  • Plan your transportation — arrange your own transport to and from the session location. Do not rely on other attendees for rides to or from a first meeting;
  • Keep your phone charged — ensure your device has sufficient battery to contact someone if needed.

6. During a Session

  • Stay in public areas — avoid going to private or secluded locations with people you have just met;
  • Trust your instincts — if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe at any point, leave immediately. You are never obligated to stay;
  • Do not share sensitive personal information — avoid sharing your home address, workplace address, financial information, or daily routine with people you have just met;
  • Watch your belongings and drinks — keep personal items secure and be cautious about accepting food or drinks from strangers;
  • Respect boundaries — if someone asks you to stop a behavior, respect their request immediately;
  • Use in-app chat — communicate through glup chat rather than sharing personal phone numbers until you are comfortable doing so.

7. After a Session

  • Rate the session and host — your honest ratings help the community identify trustworthy hosts and flag concerns;
  • Report any issues — if anything made you uncomfortable during the session, report it immediately using the in-app report feature or by emailing report@gluesq.com;
  • Block if necessary — if another attendee made you uncomfortable, block them to prevent future contact;
  • Contact authorities if needed — if you experienced a crime or feel threatened, contact local law enforcement immediately (see Emergency Resources below).

8. Content Moderation

glup actively moderates content to maintain a safe environment:

  • Session moderation — sessions may be flagged for review and hidden from discovery if they violate our Community Guidelines. Moderation status is tracked separately from session lifecycle status;
  • Chat monitoring — while we respect your privacy, we may review reported messages and take action on content that violates our guidelines;
  • Local Picks review — business promotions are subject to content standards. Misleading, deceptive, or harmful promotions are removed;
  • Human review — all enforcement actions involving account restrictions are reviewed by a human member of our trust and safety team.

9. Safety for Minors (13-17)

glup takes additional care to protect younger users:

  • Users under 13 are not permitted on the platform. If we discover an account belongs to a user under 13, it will be immediately terminated;
  • We encourage parents and guardians of users aged 13 to 17 to review these safety guidelines together and to maintain awareness of their child's activity on the Platform;
  • Any user who encounters behavior that they believe targets or exploits minors should report it immediately. We escalate all such reports to law enforcement;
  • Session hosts should be aware that minors may attend public sessions and should ensure session content and activities are appropriate.

10. Business and Local Picks Safety

Local Picks connect users with real businesses and promotions. Stay safe when engaging with Local Picks:

  • Local Picks are discovery-only — glup does not process transactions between users and businesses;
  • Verify promotions directly with the business before making purchase decisions;
  • Report businesses that do not honor advertised promotions or that engage in deceptive practices;
  • Business accounts with repeated complaints may have their Local Picks privileges suspended or revoked.

11. Emergency Resources

If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. glup is not an emergency service and cannot provide real-time emergency assistance.

12. Data Security

Your data is protected by multiple layers of security:

  • All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest;
  • Authentication tokens are verified on every API request;
  • Suspicious login attempts trigger automatic account lockout;
  • Security events (login attempts, IP addresses) are logged and monitored for 90 days;
  • Rate limiting prevents automated abuse of all Platform endpoints;
  • All database write operations use SERIALIZABLE transaction isolation to prevent data corruption.

For detailed information about our data practices, please review our Privacy Policy.

13. Continuous Improvement

Safety is an ongoing commitment. We continuously improve our safety measures by:

  • Analyzing report patterns to identify and address emerging safety concerns;
  • Updating our moderation processes based on community feedback;
  • Investing in improved detection of harmful content and behavior;
  • Collaborating with local authorities and safety organizations in our operating markets;
  • Publishing transparency reports on enforcement actions.

14. Contact Our Safety Team

Our trust and safety team is available to help with any safety concern:
